The Socket Prophecy

Director Kenneth Mason

Cranston Department of Public Works

935 Phenix Avenue

Cranston, RI 02921

Dear Director Mason:

I hope this message finds you well.  Even though I may disagree policy wise from time to time with the leadership in your community, the way they conduct themselves is beyond reproach.  I never get those “Hey, you gotta look at this Department because it’s got a white nationalist smell” requests about Cranston.

Technically, I have written to your excellent Police Chief twice surrounding this issue.  However, today upon searching through your local statutes I found that you needed to be included.  It is important that we follow local laws.

What did I write your Police Chief about??  The first time was about Mr. Millea and Mr. Mattiello.  That situation has only gotten worse.  Mattiello’s protege Greg Amore is running for Secretary of State.  No one wants Mr. Mattiello to have access to voter data.  If that weren’t bad enough, Lifespan decided that someone with Mr. Mattiello’s communications skills should be a lobbyist.  Imagine if one of their hospitals had the patient COVID outbreak that was just discovered??  Of course everyone would want to make it Mr. Mattiello’s fault.

The second time was directly about the ILO group.  They decided to incorporate at 251 Norwood Avenue.  Lots of folks incorporate at their house so that’s not a surprise.  Most of those businesses do not steal $2 million from the state with the help of a neighboring Mayor.  That part is a little different.

Not only did they steal from us but they’re not getting the job done.  They were supposed to help our schools reopen and stay COVID free.  Is there any evidence in Cranston of the ILO Group, a Chiefs for Change entity, doing anything for your schools??  We shouldn’t be surprised as there is another Chiefs for Change disciple causing problems in New Orleans as I type this.

If you’re wondering how I am doing, I beat the false arrest that happened when Rep. Pat Serpa asked a Trump supporter to lie to the police about me.  Much as I don’t blame anything that happens regarding Mr. Millea, Mr. Mattiello, or the ILO Group on your police, I do not blame anything that happened with Rep. Serpa on the West Warwick Police.  Because I can pay for a lawyer, and have other lawyer friends, I can run around, be a little loud, stir the pot, cause some trouble.  It also means I get help when I am digging through your statutes looking for entertaining things to play with.  We just happened to find one.

If you read the other letters, you know at some time we may decide to protest at 251 Norwood Avenue.  I hate protests but sometimes people have to get it out of their systems.  As is procedure, that means getting a parade permit.  In Cranston, we have to take it a step further.  You have “Socket Language” in your municipal ordinances.

Why does Socket language matter??  Most of the time, as Democrats we do not bring flags to protests.  However, most Trump supporters are members of a cult so there are flags everywhere.  In some cases, the Trump cult members have no idea what the flags mean.  For instance, most of them have no idea that “In God we Trust” is Deist and therefore, if you say that or create an emblem saying it, you are indicating you do not believe in Jesus.

The easiest way to make fun of such people is to come up with even more satirical flags.  If you do not want to spend the entire day holding said flag while at the protest, you have to stick it somewhere.  Cranston has a socket ordinance so when the Parade Permit request is made, you might also receive a “temporary socket” request along with it.  Normally I would say that there is no way this will all happen but based on the way the previous two letters worked out, the ease with which I exposed Rep. Serpa to be a liar and her friend Thomas Oates to be a racist, and just because it is 2022, there is no way we can escape an upcoming socket episode.

I know you may think all of this is silly.  It could be worse.  You could be the North Providence Police Chief.  That Chief knows his Mayor stole from the public, that the group he took the payout from did not do the job, and that his state senator once was too cheap to buy condoms in order to sleep with an employee, not his wife, so instead stole the condoms in order to sleep with the employee who was not his wife.  Imagine wanting to develop public trust when you know those things about the folks who granted you the office in the first place.  Suddenly a debate about socket ordinances almost feels comforting.

As always, I believe in following local statutes.  If you believe our future request for temporary sockets creates a bad precedent, we will respect your ruling.  I have no idea what other silliness we might come up with but once again, it is 2022.

Thank you for your time and consideration.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Robert T. Oliveira
