Dear Archivist Ferriero:
Back in 2018, you rejected a request by Senator Chuck Schumer, and others, to see 3 million pages of documents regarding Brett Kavanaugh because “the Democratic Senator was not Chair of a Committee.” Senator Chuck Grassley was a Chair and you followed through on his request.
At present, a number of elected Democrats are again seeking documents related to Justice Kavanuagh. However, many of us are afraid that there is some loophole out there waiting to devour these requests made by elected officials.
That therefore begs the question: what if just your average voter like me was to request the 3 million pages of documents you previously withheld?? I am not currently elected and Mr. Kavanaugh is not currently in front of a hearing. What would it cost to receive the documents now??
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Robert T. Oliveira
